It has been another good week in Resort. We had lots of snowfall over the weekend and the rest of week has been clear, with a little bit of snow every afternoon. It has been extremely cold on the mountain, which has been good and bad news. Good news; the cold has kept the snow coverage in great condition, and you can still get fresh tracks if you go for a little hike, bad news; it is really really cold! So if you are coming out to resort make sure you have plenty of warm kit. One of the best things to invest in is good quality thermals and base layers. I have got some of the midweight icebreaker merino thermals and I absolutely love them. They keep me so warm and I really notice the difference when I don’t wear them. Even though there has been a lot of snow and it is really light and fluffy, there is still a bit of a crust underneath in places. We found that the snow in the more tree lined areas was a lot better, with no crust underneath. In fact we had a fantastic day on Thursday up in Nyon and found some extremely deep areas of snow in the tree runs. It was probably some of the lightest and deepest snow I have ever skied in! Face shots all day! It really has been lovely up the hill this week; I have been spending a fair bit of time up in the Fornet bowl. There are lots of natural hits and because of the cold weather the snow has stayed really soft so it is perfect for trying to learn new things. The forecast for the week is looking good, mostly clear days with temperatures rising.
On Monday we went to Munich for the ISPO, a trade show for all next season gear. It was absolutely massive and it took us two full days just to walk through and see everything. There were so many cool things to see, I am just going to go through some of my highlights. Next season everyone has got a pair of massive rockered skis and they all are super wide and super rockered. I really want to try some out! Look are re-releasing their old pivot binding, which is going to make a lot of people happy. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about this system, and I know many people who have been trying to get their hands on a pair and now they can! The Armada stand was awesome, both their skis and outerwear were my favourites of the show. Nordica have adopted the 2 piece and 3 buckle boot system that Dalbello, Full tilt and Salomon have had for a few years now. This type of boots is becoming very popular, and comes from the old Raichle mould. And apparently they are really comfortable. Hooray for comfy ski boots! Another highlight of the trip was visiting the Hofbrau house. This place is always packed, the atmosphere is amazing, you get to drink beer out of one litre stein glasses and the food is delicious. What more could you want! All in all it was a very fun trip to Munich!
Also the Winter Olympics officially began yesterday so I hope you are all tuning in to support everyone over in Vancouver. It should be a very exciting couple of weeks!
