23rd February 2010
It's the final week of half-term this week so still super busy around the resorts. Fortunately as it is mainly families it tends to be the nursery slopes that are busy. Generally, even though there are loads of people in town, the queues for lifts are not too bad because the Portes du Soleil ski area is massive.
The weather has been pretty mixed this week, its been fairly warm so even though it had a go at snowing it was always on the brink of rain so it has been really wet up the hill. Having said that a couple of times this week we have looked out the windows in the morning and it has looked like a total white out, but decided to go up anyway and by early afternoon it has cleared up and turned out to be a glorious day.
All the snow and sleet that we have had has made the snow on piste pretty slushy, which has actually been pretty fun and very forgiving if you crash, which I have seen a lot of this week. More kids without fail means more crashes, especially in the Stash which is an all natural terrain park. We have found that going up the lift above and watching is almost as entertaining as coming back down!
The forecast for the weather looks pretty similar for the next week, so lets all keep our fingers crossed that the gaps outweigh the clouds.
There have been some pretty fun events in resort this week, they had loads of fireworks and a touchlit precession to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jean Vuarnet winning Olympic Gold, including a bunch of guys dressing up in retro 60s ski gear which was pretty funny.
There was also the 'Dance X' contest in Nyon, which was basically a boarder-cross and freestyle exhibition mixed with crazy euro-pop. They had a foam pit and a cage with dancing girls in! Highlight has to be when a little kid tried to ski over the foam-pit and just disappeared in a cloud of bubbles, EPIC!
There is a Dark Dog/ Dynastar tour coming to town this weekend so hopefully it will be a similar affair!
Over and Out!
