It has been a pretty good start to the season so far. We arrived in Morzine on the 18th, a few days after the Portes du Soleil ski resort officially opened (12th). It started snowing as soon as we pulled into the drive of our new place, and continued all night. Our first two days the season were amazing, two epic powder days! We headed straight to Chatel, which has some fantastic off piste runs, which are easily accessible. We discovered, despite the powder, there wasn’t quite enough base yet when we went down one of our favourite off pistes runs. It is usually quite flat with big pillows you can pop off but this time there were huge cracks and rocks all over the place. One of our friends, Nathan, was boarding along and the snow fell away from him and he ended up down an 8 foot hole! We were riding with a few snowboarders and it really made me appreciate being a skier and being able to push myself along and easily manoeuvre around some of the sticky situations we got ourselves into. It was an amazing first couple of days on the mountain and the snow is looking really good. Many of the runs hadn’t been groomed and so we were getting first tracks down the pistes! It was a great start to season and I can’t wait for more snow!
