Wow, it has literally snowed everyday this year! It’s been amazing! But seriously, the season has really kicked off now, and the snow cover is looking good. New Year’s Eve in Morzine was awesome, the place was packed and there was a great atmosphere in town. We even got some fireworks! All the bars were full and open until early hours. Amazingly I managed to stay out until 5 am and on my long stumble home it started snowing! It was a complete white out on New Year’s Day, which was perfect timing, as we all needed a rest (hangover) day. Actually it has been quite an incredible week, snowing most nights with relatively clear days. Nyon was the place to hit all of the fresh powder. It has some great tree line skiing and it was so quiet, we skied fresh tracks all day. It has been freezing cold though, so make sure if you are coming to resort to bring plenty of warm clothes! We spent a few days skiing Nyon, and we did some of the best lines I have ever skied. We did get ourselve in one sticky situation though. When traversing above a cliff band it got quite icy and it was getting difficult to keep high. Once we safely made it round though, there was a huge open face of knee deep powder, all to ourselves! The past few days have been so much fun; skiing powder is the most amazing feeling you can possibly have. Hopefully it keeps on snowing!

One of the best things about living in France is the plethora of delicious cheeses available. We had some friends staying with us so we decided to have a raclette party. We made a trip to one of the Savoyard cheese shops and bought a whole lot of hard cheeses and cold meats. They even let us borrow a few raclette/pierre chaud machines for free. Raclette is so delicious, but particularly bad for you. It consists of melting a lot of cheese under a hot grill and serving it with potatoes, gherkins, cold meats and vegetables. It was a super fun evening of good food and good wine. And we all had some exciting dreams too!
Happy New Year every one!
