LES PORTES DU SOLEIL, APRES-SKI & MUTZIG!

Unfortunately we haven’t received any more snow this week. The weather has been absolutely lovely though. Apart from one cloudy day, it has been a picture perfect blue bird, day after day. Despite all the sunshine, it has still been very cold, so the snow cover has remained intact. The slopes are a bit icy in places but all in all they are looking good. I spent a bit of time in the half pipe this week which has been loads and loads of fun. The big park in Avoriaz is in the process of being built and it looks like it will stay very true to its name! The rest of the parks in resort are also looking good, there has been a lot of effort put into the parks this year, making the Portes du Soleil one of the best places for freestyle riders. I had some friends visiting this week so I tried to make the most of our huge resort by taking them all over the Portes du Soleil.  We had a great time exploring, and we got to see some really beautiful spots. There were lots of really cool cloud inversions, where the cloud sits low in the valley of Morzine and the skiable area is above the cloud. It made for some really cools snaps. The forecast for the week says it is going to snow snow snow, with a huge dump on Wednesday and Thursday! So get yourselves out here! Bring on the Pow!

One of the highlights for anyone coming to Morzine is Bar Robinson. Why is it so good? MUTZIG! This magical lager is made in the tiny town of Mutzig in the North East of France. You can tell it comes from the German influenced part of France as it is over 7% strong! They must put something else in it though, because after a few demis of Mutzig you will be unbelievably happy! It’s amazing!Bar Robinson, or Robos, has been here forever, and is a quaint little bar down near the Marie. It is run by an old French trio; Mr Robinson and two Mrs Robinsons. These guys are half the attraction, they only speak French, don’t have a till, and close the bar just before their bedtime, 8pm. We have come to really love the Robinsons, and without them, après just wouldn’t be the same. Robos is definitely the best place in Morzine to go for après ski, it is always packed, the drinks are relatively cheap and the atmosphere is fantastic. Wednesday is seasonnaire staff’s day off, so you can be guaranteed that there will some shenanigans at the bar and you’ll have an awesome time. After a good Robos session one usually comes home starving for dinner and is past out in bed by 10:00pm. The perfect night to finish an epic day skiing! And after a 10 hour sleep, you’ll have no signs of hangover in the morning!
