Layers
MERINO WOOL
Warmest by weight
Merino’s fine, crimped fibres contain millions of air pockets that trap body heat. Merino garments have an exceptionally high warmth-to-weight ratio and give all the warmth of a heavy sweater, but with none of the bulk.
Breathable
Your Icebreaker passes moisture (evaporated sweat) through the individual fibres and also through its knit structure, leaving you feeling cool and comfortable.
Warm when wet
Synthetics absorb less than 4% of their weight in moisture before they feel clammy and uncomfortable. In contrast, the merino in your Icebreaker can absorb up to 35% of its weight before even beginning to feel wet. Because of the chemical make-up of wool, your Icebreaker also releases a small but perceptible amount of heat from within the fibre structure as it absorbs moisture.
Great for Layering
Layering Icebreaker amplifies the warmth. Air is trapped in between each layer, increasing the levels of insulation. The layers combine like a single lightweight, breathable garment.
Comfortable
Merino fibres are longer than all other wool fibres, meaning less ends in the fabric and therefore less itching.
Odour resistant
Manages moisture – keeps your body at its ideal temperature by absorbing and releasing moisture.
NATURAL
Renewable source of material.
SAFE
Fire resistant Merino is naturally fire retardant – unlike synthetics and cotton, which are flammable. High UV protection - ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’ protection against the sun (UPF 25-45+).
VERSATILE
All season Wool is nature’s way to protect sheep from extremes of environment, and it will work just as well for you. The breath ability of merino fleece allows sheep to stay cool in the heat of summer, while its insulating properties keeps them warm in winter.
Micro-fleece
Light-weight, high pile, soft and comfortable. A great layering option to increase warmth, without increasing bulk. Made from 73% recycled materials (Peak Performance).
Fieldsensor
Fieldsensor is a high-performance sportswear material with a refreshing touch and easy wearability which eliminates the perspiration-induces stickiness and clinginess of traditional materials. By scientifically analysing the movement of water through materials, Toray’s R&D effort created a technology which applies the principles of capillary transport to the structure of knitwear to absorb, move and disperse and evaporate perspiration from the skin, thus providing a refreshing feel during exercise. Fieldsensor has gained an excellent reputation for its properties in golfwear, athletics and technical sportswear. Content: 69% Nylon, 16% Polyester, 15% Spandex We recommend wearing this fabric directly on top of your wicking baselayers.
Pertex Microlight
Essential when grams and ounces count. All Pertex Microlight fabrics are in the 45g/m² weight range. Lightweight, soft hand and hard durability for it’s weight.
Pertex Quantum
Pertex Quantum is the lightest fabric made by Pertex. It’s a true featherweight as they use the finest yarns available to use with the maximum thread counts.
Polartec Power Dry
Designed to keep your skin dry when you sweat by using different yarns on either side of the fabric. This creates two different surfaces: one that is optimised to move moisture away from the skin, the other to dry quickly.
Polartec Power Stretch
Body hugging 4 way stretch and very breathable. It will keep you dry when you sweat and provide warmth without weight. Actively pulls moisture away allowing comfort and performance.
Polygiene
Polygiene is a breakthrough, patented antimicrobial technology that employs ionic silver to inhibit the growth of micro-organisms.
Thermolite
Thermolite is used extensively for insulating linings within the ski industry. The material is available in different types and weights for a variety of applications and for different insulation needs. The models Peak Performance uses are Thermolite plus, Thermolite active, and Thermolite micro. Thermolite plus provides the best insulation while Thermolite active has the best breathing properties, and Thermolite micro is the thinnest and lightest lining.
Primaloft
The human body uses energy to keep warm. PrimaLoft uses a patented microfibre structure to help the body retain warmth and conserve energy. The lighweight and incredibly soft PrimaLoft insulation core creates millions of air spaces suspended in microfibre mesh. These air spaces are so fine that water drops bead on the surface. Even when forced into the PrimaLoft core, water is repelled and not absorbed by the patented microfibre structure. This is why you will stay warm under wet conditions.
PrimaLoft® Sport
PrimaLoft® Sport is the perfect combination of high performance insulation and value. This technology combines ultra-fine and multi-diameter fibers for specific performance characteristics. The specially treated ultra-fine fibers help to form a water resistant insulating structure, while the multi-diameter fibers help to build loft. If your idea of a great winter weekend takes you outside into the great outdoors, PrimaLoft® Sport helps you feel at home and well insulated even if the weather turns wet.
PrimaLoft® One
PrimaLoft® One is the ultimate microfiber insulation. Ultra-fine fibers are specially treated in a patented process and then combined into an insulating core that is incredibly soft, lightweight and water resistant. PrimaLoft® One absorbs 3 times less water, is 14% warmer when dry and is 24% warmer when wet than the competitive insulation.
